Customer Owned Generation

Whether it's to offset their own bills or help the environment — or even a combination of the two — both residential and business customers are beginning to look for ways to generate their own power.

As a result, the Ontario Power Authority is helping lead Ontario in the development of North America’s most reliable, cost-effective and sustainable electricity system. The organization manages two programs that assist homeowners, businesses and commercial/industrial customers with their energy goals by offering stable prices under long-term contracts for energy generated from renewable sources.

FIT

Ontario's feed-in tariff or FIT Program is North America's first comprehensive guaranteed pricing structure for renewable electricity production. Designed to encourage the development of renewable energy projects across Ontario, the FIT Program is for renewable energy projects that can generate more than 10 kilowatts (kW) of electricity. microFIT

If you are a homeowner or an eligible participant, you have the opportunity to develop a very small or “micro” renewable electricity generation project (10 kilowatts or less in size) on your property. Under the microFIT Program, you will be paid a guaranteed price for all the electricity your project produces for at least 20 years. Click here to learn more about microFIT
